Ten minutes, start to finish

How It Works

With guidance, you’ll sit down in warm water, exhale out and gently submerge underwater for about five seconds. That’s the whole test.

What actually happens

Five steps and you are done

Almost everyone arrives a little unsure about the water. It is worth knowing exactly what the ten minutes consists of before you get here.

Five seconds under and the test is done
  1. You arrive and change

You arrive, change into your swimsuit and will be guided step by step. Bring a towel — you will get completely wet. There is nothing to fill in on the day; your booking is already on the roster.

  2. Record dry weight and height

Your weight on land, plus your height. Those numbers are part of the scientific calculation that produces your result.

  3. Step into the tank

The water temperature is kept between 89 and 92°F, clean and warm. You step in and sit down on an underwater scale.

  4. Exhale forcibly, gently submerge

Forcibly exhale 95% of your air above water, submerge gently and force out the last 5% of your air. Hold still for two seconds. Two knocks means come up — and of course you can come up anytime you need. We will do this at least two more times.

  5. Results before you leave

Your fat mass, lean mass, a calculated resting metabolic rate and your history, printed and in your hand. Ten minutes, start to finish.
